Church Road Development

Wilson Designer Homes, the developer for the Steep in Need site, completed a first public consultation on June 15th and is digesting the feedback from that event. The material shown at the exhibition can be seen on the Steep in Need website and in more detail here. A second consultation by Wilson Designer Homes is expected at the end of September.

Following the progress since March, the Parish Council’s Church Road Working Group (link to new page with all info about the group) is currently suspended to enable more concentrated work on the Parish Council’s role as Trustee of the Village Hall. A small group of trustees and residents is supporting the Trustees in this work and is currently planning for a public consultation about the Hall and its land on 3 and 6 September. News from the group will continue to be posted on this site and on the Steep Village Hall’s own website.

We hope to see as many residents as possible at these events to help the trustees in deciding about the future of this important community asset.

The Council is committed to encouraging calm and open debate about the Church Road site.

Information Snippets

  • The Church Road Working Group is working! We have held a number of meetings and discussions with both Wilson Designer Homes. Steep in Need’s chosen developer and concerned villagers.
Our main aims are to make the latest information on this important and sensitive project available to everyone, and to improve communication between all involved.
We will be updating the website regularly and will also be publishing an information leaflet showing how to give your views.

  • Stuart Wilson, the developer, has withdrawn his initial Pre App (a request to the South Downs National Park Authority (SDNPA) planners for advice prior to preparing a planning application) for the Steep in Need land, to allow wider consultation with the village before approaching the Planning Authority again. He has published five new options, which you can see on the SIN website (insert link) or here.

  • Two useful documents about Church Road have appeared on the SDNPA planning website:

    –          the Planning Officer’s summary of her meeting with the developer on 4 March. This includes a review of comments made in response to the original Master Concept for the site, and of other points which will need to be taken into account in any future proposal. You can find this below left.

    –          a letter from the Planning Officer setting out the principle for developing the site, the nature of the Pre App and the issues that the SDNPA can take into consideration when making planning decisions. You can read the letter below right.

Both documents are copied from the SDNPA website as published, with limited availability to adjust readability.  However, the controls for  zoom (yellow) and full screen (green) are shown below; and there is a download option if you click the three dots of the industry standard “more menu”.
